THE authentic flavours of the islands of Greece have now joined Marina Mirage’s extensive dining offering with Elia Greek Island Taverna opening this month. Elia, which is the Greek word for olive, brings the deliciously fresh and defined flavours of traditional Mediterranean cuisine to diners at the boutique waterfront shopping and dining destination.
The opening of Elia marks the second Gold Coast dining establishment for owner Marina Panaviaris who has more than 30 years’ experience in the restaurant industry and is also the owner of the French-inspired offering, La Provence Cafe and Eatery. Ms Panaviaris who originates from Greece herself and visits her home country often says Elia will fill the evident gap in the market for a Gold Coast family-friendly restaurant serving authentic Greek food.
“Elia provides a great atmosphere, and quality, traditional Greek food at an affordable price so people can afford to enjoy great Greek food every week,” says Ms Panaviari.
“Our dishes are fresh, cooked to order and our recipes are authentic with plenty of offerings for vegan and vegetarians too.
“Gold Coasters will love Elia’s food offering because it is healthy and infused with the benefits of olive oil, oregano, and lemon while being low fat and tasty.”
Elia reflects the traditional role of a taverna in Greece, providing an authentic dining experience and acting as a hub of activity for diners wanting to revel in the taste of Greece. The food menu is extensive with a focus on quality and authenticity featuring all the expected Greek favourites including homemade moussaka and traditional braised goat known as katsiki.
The ever-popular Mediterranean-inspired dining trend meze, meaning taste or snack, is also on offer with a menu brimming with flavoursome share platters created to be enjoyed with friends while taking in the taverna’s expansive waterfront views. After-work diners and those not interested in a heavy meal are accommodated with ouzeri hour between 4pm and 6pm each evening, where guests are treated to a range of specialty meze and a premium selection of ouzo. Elia also accommodates dessert and coffee dates throughout the evening.
Staying true to its taverna origins, Elia delights diners an extensive bar offering including flavoursome Greek wine and spirits, along with live music on the weekends as the sun sets over the Broadwater. Elegantly fitted out to imitate a Greek island, the taverna is decked out in the traditional Mediterranean colours of blue, black and green combined with feature pieces including deep pink Bougainvillea overhead and a number of real olive trees.
All furniture within the taverna has been specially sourced from Greece along with authentic Greek crockery. Taking up a prime 300m2 tenancy on Marina Mirage’s ground level with sweeping views of the Broadwater, Elia has the capacity to seat a maximum of 250 guests and accommodate functions with the ability to split areas to include both inside and outside entertaining areas.
